I purchased this car in Feb. 1980 after selling my SS-396 Camaro (I wanted
a car no-one had, I really got one!). The car was a dealer race car from
a southern New Jersey AMC dealer called Monmouth American. The name was
painted on the sides of the car in huge block letters and there was a
blue stripe in place of the blue arrow on the hood. I mention this because
if anyone has pics or info on this cars racing history please e-mail me.
I decided to create a street strip car instead of a full resto, because
the car was mini tubbed and the springs were relocated. I rebuilt the
engine in 1983, repainted the car and did the interior in 1992, and showed
and raced the car thru 1997.
I won a junior gold trophy with it at the Denver PA nat's. in 1994 in
addition to other awards over the years. It has also run a best time of
12.07 @ 114 in full street trim on street tires. I love owning my Scrambler
because it is a rare and unique car and people always relate me with that
car because of its rarity. Try that with a Camaro!
